The Field General Court Martial (FGCM) under the Pakistan Army Act (PAA) has sentenced Indian spy Kulbhushan Jhadav to death for espionage and sabotage activities against Pakistan, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) stated on Monday.

According to an ISPR release, Kulbushan Sudhir Jadhav, also known as Hussein Mubarak Patel, was arrested on March 3, 2016, during a counter-intelligence operation in the Mashkel area of Balochistan. The agent has admitted to being involved in destabilising activities in Pakistan in a video confession. Full text of Kulbhushan Yadav’s confession.

“RAW agent Commander Kulbushan Sundir Jadhav was tried under FGCM under section 59 of Pakistan Army Act (PAA) 1952 and Section 3 of official Secret Act of 1923.

“The FGCM found Jhadhav guilty of all charges. He confessed before a Magistrate and the Court that he was tasked by RAW to plan, coordinate and organise espionage and sabotage activities aiming to destabilise and wage war against Pakistan by impeding the efforts of law enforcement agencies for restoring peace in Balochistan and Karachi”.

“His goal was to disrupt development of the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, with Gawadar port as a special target,” said the spokesman for Pakistan’s intelligence agency, Lt. Gen. Asim Bajwa. “This is nothing short of state-sponsored terrorism. There can be no clearer evidence of Indian interference in Pakistan.”

Chief of Army Staff General Qamar Javed Bajwa has confirmed the death sentence.

Pakistan has raised this issue in all international forums and shared dossiers with the international community, including the United Nations.

The accused was provided with a defence counsel as per legal provisions.
